More below the fold...
US 0, Czech Republic 3
Talk about disappointment. The US team looks like a bunch of high school students playing a pro team.
Here is what I saw, Flat play, no risk offense, back-passing more than forward passing. Timid midfielders, bad touches, loose defense, no energy/spark, weak pasess, slow ball movement,
Other points:
Keller may be a great goalie, but his punts result in 50% turnover. This is the third game of the 2006 world cup I've seen and the US team looked the worst (Compared to Mexico, Iran, Netherlands, Serbia Montenegro)
Saw a number of defensive errors and two of those errors cost them goals. The first error, an uncovered wing made a great cross to the Czech's tall guy he headed it into the back of the net. The other mistake, US Defense left a deadly shooter all alone at the top of the box. And he scored again later.
And another bit of nonsense, turns out Claudio Rena and Brian McBride have played together 59 minutes since the 2002 world cup. How the hell can you make a world cup "TEAM" if the players cannot play together. It's almost like sending our troops into battle without armor.
Another telling statistic, I believe it is Landon Donovan (or perhaps Brian McBride) who has gone 14 WC Qualifying games without a goal... So why the hell is he in the lineup? Obviously the other teams have figured out how to shut him down...
Based on this game, if the US team advances to the next round, I will be completely surprised. They still have Italy to play - though not as highly ranked as the Czechs, they are a traditionally tough team.
My bet, US earns less than 3 points out of this round and goes home - almost as bad as their 1998 France showing (0 points). Czech Republic wins the group.
